Taking Back Hedy is a feel good story of courage, perseverance, triumph and love that left me craving for more while reflecting on my own personal life story. Hedy Vann captures a soothing writing style that immediately disarms the reader and draws them into the reality of her life. Her patient manner in weaving her life’s tale simply put me in the moment and made me feel good coming out the other side. By far Taking Back Hedy is the most enjoyable autobiography I have had the pleasure of reading, because in large part I felt she was speaking to me and that I was there with her. A must read for the relationship insight alone.

I just finished your book and thoroughly enjoyed your story. So much so, it was hard for me to put it down!! You have great literary skill in the telling of it, and you certainly kept my interest all the way through. I especially enjoyed learning about your childhood experiences, growing up as a sharecropper’s daughter. I bet many people can relate to you because of their fathers being similar to your father. It was interesting to hear how your story played out with all your family and how patient you were to wait for the reconciliation.
The hind sights and advice at the end were really good and a wonderful finale to a remarkable story. I’m going to read that part again.

I have to tell you…I am a big reader! I average 1-2 books per week. I absolutely LOVED your mom’s book! I laughed, I cried… and I couldn’t put the damn thing down! What a truly inspirational read! I just finished your book! I couldn’t put it down, I read every evening after work and today I awoke at 7:00 A.M., my day off and read two chapters, then did errands and back and forth all day!!! Just crazy!! I just finished a few minutes ago. The book was absolutely wonderful!! I used a whole box of tissues! Sometimes I would laugh out loud and sometime I’d start to cry. It was like being on a roller coaster out of control but it was your real life, how amazing is that? Words can’t express how I really feel. Some thing’s in your book I could relate to and others I just couldn’t believe the things you had to endure! I must say that you are the strongest woman I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. I am so proud of you. I had no idea how much you had been through!
